MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Justice (DoJ) is mulling to replace officials of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for failing to detect the drugs found in the care of Ilocos Sur 1st District Rep. Ronald Singson in Hong Kong.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said “I [already] asked [Justice Undersecretary Jose Vicente Salazar] to order an investigation bakit nakalusot sa NAIA.”

Salazar was recently appointed officer-in-charge of the Bureau of Immigration.

Singson was arrested at the Customs arrival hall of Chek Lap Kok International Airport in Hong Kong last July 11 for possession of 26.1 grams of cocaine and 2 tablets of diazepam, more commonly known as Valium.

The congressman's arrest became public only on Saturday after his father, Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson, confirmed the news.

A copy of Singson's charge sheet obtained by ABS-CBN News showed that he had been charged with trafficking of a dangerous drug.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is not setting aside allegations that Singson may have been given a special treatment at the airport.

MIAA chief Jose Honrado said the x-ray machines there may not have detected the illegal drugs.

Besides the possible technical error. however, there could also be a “human factor” in Singson’s case, Honrado had said.

Blind

Machine failure and/or human factor is not an excuse for incompetence. It is indispensable that this line of security must be universal. Any competent disabled can be accommodated, but not blind please.

Mere replacing will not work.

I agree with les21reago.

Thorough investigation must be done to know what exactly happened and how that person slipped.

Once the root cause is identified, then the soultion should be easy.

Heads must also roll this time.

The more Hongkong will discriminate against Filipina Domestic Helpers. Kasi even a person in congress can be so foolish to bring drugs outside of the Philippines.

Honrado as well must go. He

Honrado as well must go. He serves as spokesman for their failures at the MIAA. How many technical errors been committed at the expense of national identity and interest if that is so?. While our President are fighting those in death rows in other country to be save, here is a man depending a shame committed by a person in other country for technical reason only known to himself?

I call for De Lima not to spare and removed from their service those been passed by SINGSON and that could be traced from the CCTV camera. There must be no kid glove in here. This has been happening for quite long time. Its time to ACT now in order to avoid future country's embarassment?
