Vicente De Lima

MANILA (2nd UPDATE) - Former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Vicente De Lima passed away at the age of 82.

De Lima, father of Justice Secretary Leila De Lima, succumbed to colon cancer.

He served at the Comelec from Feb. 7, 1992 up to Nov. 4, 1994.

Mr.  de Lima had been confined at a hospital in Bicol for some time, prompting the justice secretary to travel to Bicol to be with her father about two weeks ago.

Justice Undersecretary Francisco Baraan III told reporters Mr. de Lima passed away at around 2:30 this afternoon.

He will be buried this Saturday in his hometown, Iriga City, Camarines Sur.
