MANILA  - Balanga Auxiliary Bishop Socrates Villegas on Wednesday gave his final farewell to former President Corazon Aquino and said the democracy icon taught the Filipino people "true people power."

In his final commendation at the funeral Mass on Wednesday, Villegas said Mrs. Aquino gave the Filipino people strength, and that she changed the meaning of the color yellow -- "the color of your love for your country and your people."

"Tita Cory, thank you for teaching us how to pray. Amid clashing voices and confusing noise, your prayer was a silent power. You taught us that true people power is prayer power. Even in the past weeks, as you suffered alone in your hospital room, you taught us how to pray again. How you bore our afflictions with grace-filled resignation taught us the dignity of suffering. Thank you for teaching us the dignity of suffering. Thank you teaching us to stand up for freedom and to preserve democracy no matter what the cost may be," he said.

He added: "We promise to love this country as you loved us. There is darkness in our land because you are gone. But we know we have enough lights within us because you have shared with us your fire."
