Aquino mulls holiday on August 23
MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III is studying whether to declare a special non-working holiday on August 23, the nearest Monday to August 21, Ninoy Aquino Day.
“Palagay ko hindi na,” Aquino said in a dialogue with the Malacañang Press Corps on Friday.
He said he was uncomfortable with the idea of declaring a special non-working holiday which commemorates the death of his father.
However, he said he would still consider it given that it is part of the holiday economics policy of former President Gloria Arroyo.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, in his regular press briefing, said that the present government will respect the Holiday Economics Law or Republic Act (RA) 9492.
Expounding on Aquino's sentiment, Lacierda said the president "does not want to highlight the death anniversary or any anniversary of his parents just because of his position.
The death anniversary of Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., the President's father, falls on a Saturday, August 21. If RA 9492 will be followed, Monday, August 23, will be declared a holiday.
August 23 is also the anniversary of the Cry of Pugad Lawin.

resolve soon
i hope the president resolve this soon since there are others who already made plans on that weekend. it is true that there might be flaws in moving holidays to the nearest monday, but i suppose this should be respected in deference to people who has been affected by it.
review the law and make the adjustments next year.

public holidays should be set by law and not on the whim of any
