Saint Cory Aquino? 2 miracles needed
MANILA - One of the qualifications for sainthood is that a person must have performed 2 documented miracles, according to a Filipino priest.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Fr. Aris Sison, parish priest of the Parish of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Quezon City, said any person or group can initiate a petition for canonization.
The Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish, located at Daily Mirror St., West Triangle, Quezon City, is also known as the parish of the late President Corazon Aquino.
A petition for Mrs. Aquino's canonization must begin at her diocese.
Mrs. Aquino died August 1 after an 18-month battle against colon cancer. Around 250,000 people joined her 8-hour, 20-kilometer funeral procession on August 5.
Fr. Aris noted that Mrs. Aquino was a very prayerful person, very simple, and very humble. He believes that Mrs. Aquino lived a holy life.
However, Fr. Sison said the process towards sainthood is a long one. It takes from 1 to 3 years for a group or individual to petition a person for sainthood.
The petition should be filed in the diocese where the candidate for canonization lived. In Mrs. Aquino's case, it is the Diocese of Cubao.
Fr. Sison said the process of canonization takes at least five years. The process is a long one because the petition must first be submitted to and then studied by the Vatican. The Vatican will undertake a thorough and rigorous screening of a candidate's life, a process that often takes years.
He said one of the qualifications is that the candidate must have performed 2 documented miracles.
Fr. Sison, former spokesperson of the Archdiocese of Manila, is a professor of media literacy, pastoral communication, Homiletics (study of sermons), and social communications.
The Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish was formally consecrated and dedicated by the late Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin in May 1992.
The first people power revolution at EDSA, which led to restoration of democracy under President Aquino, has often been referred to as a "miracle."Priests, nuns and ordinary citizens stopped military tanks and successfully prayed for a peaceful resolution of the political crisis.
st cory?
nO mIRACLE
Miracle Defined:
- Any amazing or wonderful occurrence
- A marvellous event manifesting a supernatural act of a divine agent
- A perceptible interruption of the laws of nature, such that can be explained by divine intervention.
- EDSA 2 was an amazing show of unity perpetuated by mixed feeling of emotion and sentiment for greed, disloyalty and mistrust, propelled by Filipinos shallow understanding of democracy. I don't believe there was divine intervention present in both historic events.
A miracle indeed
Guyz! I even heard about d statement of d Archbishop in Lipa City of having d petition of d sainthood of Former Pres. Aquino. On the other hand the Diocese of Cubao must make a petition or signature campaign to be submitted to the Vatican for examination & it requires 2 miracles 4 it 2 happen. In my opinion EDSA 1 & 2 is a miracle & I hope it would be used as an evidence. & I will pray 4 that
Hopeless Notion From a Hopeless Fellow
I admired Cory in many ways, most particularly her contribution in the restoration of Philippine Democracy.
However, the notion of Cory Aquino being a Saint is an extremely exaggerated expression of false admiration and fanaticism.
The person suggesting or believing this could be possibly showing how hopeless they are as a person. Cory a Saint can not save our country from poverty nor alleviate our lives.
It is our faith upon ourselves propelled by hard work and determination can change our lives and prosper not only as individuals but a nation.
Need a change? Stop the practice of fanaticism and to much sensationalizing of events, rather start believing in yourself and make your honest contribution this country by voting wisely.
Fanaticism can bring this country down. Don't let history repeat itself. The future is in our hands.
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas.
Santa Corazon Aquino, Patron Saint of Philippine Peoples Power
Pres. Tital Cory is as virtuous as a saint. She is revered not only by Filipinos but of millions of people around the world, from the Imperialist West to Communist East and the Holy See. She is worthy of respect for her remarkable wisdom and achievements. A decent and righteous wife of hero Ninoy Aquino. She already performed one miracle-- The first bloodless people power revolution that restored Philippine democracy, this was hailed by leaders of the world as a "miracle” where thousands of priests, nuns and ordinary citizens stopped by means of prayers, the military tanks for a peaceful resolution of the political crisis. The second was in 2001 where she led the 2nd people’s power to restore morality in governance placing Mrs. Gloria Arroyo to power—but this failed miserably to be another miracle.
Only God Knows
Di ho ba ang Diyos lang ang nakakaalam kung sino ang qualified na maging saint? Saludo ako kay Tita Cory, palagay ko ang pag usapan ay kung qualified sya na maging hero. Yung pagka saint, Only God Knows.
st cory?
