Death toll in PH floods reaches 19
MANILA, Philippines - At least 19 people are dead in the heavy rains and floods that hit Metro Manila and nearby provinces this week.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said 9 of the fatalities were recorded following a landslide in Quezon City. Eight of the fatalities were drowning victim while 2 were electrocuted.
Three people are still missing.
So far, the monsoon rains have affected 2 million people, with more than 61,000 families still in evacuation centers.
Meanwhile, 16 areas in Luzon are still under a state of calamity.

The declaration of a state of calamity allows local governments to use emergency funds for calamity response and the implementation of a price freeze.
