MANILA - The Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases believes that hospital facilities in the country would be able to contain the Ebola virus once it does enter the country.

PSMID president Ludovico Jurao said tertiary hospitals already have facilities to isolate suspected Ebola patients.

He said these patients will then be referred to regional government medical centers that are equipped to deal with such cases.

Jurao said that since transmission of Ebola is through contact with bodily fluids, handling of such cases are not as hard as compared to other infectious respiratory diseases such as MERS-COV, which spreads through air particles and has a higher rate of transmission.

The PSMID president warned the threat of the virus entering the country is real, with the big number of overseas Filipino workers in Africa and with the advent of easier international travel.
