Palace won't confirm if PNoy going to China
MANILA - Malacañang won't confirm yet if President Benigno Aquino III is indeed going to China next month to attend the China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning.
"We'll wait for the DFA to confirm. We have not received any word kung tuloy na siya," Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.
If ever it pushes through, the Palace said the trip will be mostly economic in nature and may not likely touch on issues on the West Philippine Sea.
Lacierda said this is because the territorial now is now the subject of arbitration before an international tribunal.
"Wala kaming nakikitang pag-uusapan tungkol sa situation natin with China on the West Philippine Sea. It's a primarily an economic event at trade event. So it's ASEAN and China kaya nga tinatawag na [China-ASEAN] EXPO. It's primarily an economic and trade event," Lacierda said.
Last year, it was Secretary Mar Roxas and presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda who went to the Expo to represent Aquino.
Roxas was sent by Aquino to meet with then Chinese Vice President and now Chinese top leader Xi Jinping to discuss pressing issues on the West Philippine Sea.
