Congress pays last respects to Escudero dad
MANILA, Philippines - Lawmakers and staff of the House of Representatives paid their last respects to the late Sorsogon Representative Salvador Escudero III, father of Sen. Francis Escudero, at the Batasan Pambansa Complex Wednesday morning.
The special mass for the late congressman started around 9:30 a.m. inside the plenary hall where his remains were brought from Mount Carmel Church in New Manila, Quezon City.
A marching band guided the casket carrying Escudero's remains into the House of Representatives.
Sen. Francis Escudero and more than 100 congressmen wore black arm bands during the mass.
Scheduled to speak at the necrological service right after the mass are Hon. Victor Ortega, Hon. Deogracias Ramos Jr., Hon. Imelda Marcos, Hon. Florencio Bem Noel, Hon. Arnulfo Fuentebella and Hon. Feliciano Belmonte Jr.
The late congressman's remains will be returned to Mount Carmel Church after lunch and will be flown to Sorsogon tomorrow morning.
The date of the late lawmaker's interment has yet to be announced.
Escudero died in his sleep at his Quezon City home on Monday. He was 69.
