Don't connive with Napoles, BI staff told
MANILA – The officer-in-charge of the Bureau of Immigration (BI), Atty. Siegfred Mison, urged members of the bureau not to connive with Janet Lim Napoles and her brother, who are wanted for serious illegal detention.
“I am appealing to all members of the bureau family to make sure that this time our image will not be tarnished. We have to work as a team,” Mison told ANC’s “Top Story” on Thursday.
A hold departure order against Napoles and her brother are now in effect because of the arrest warrants.
However, Mison said his office has received reports that the two suspects are planning to exit the country, prompting him to issue a “heightened alert.”
“We have received various intelligence reports that Ms. Napoles and her brother will try to leave the country that’s why I already placed a heightened alert acting on the instructions of Justice Sec. Leila de Lima that if found, all immigration officers will arrest and turn over to the NBI,” he said.
Mison added that the BI is coordinating with other agencies to “prevent any act of connivance and corruption.”
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima has also warned the coddlers of Napoles, the alleged mastermind behind the P10 billion pork barrel scam and Malampaya fund scam.
She asked the public to report of any sighting of Napoles and contact the National Bureau of Investigation’s operation center at the numbers 02) 5241141 and 0917-5838-612.
A Makati court yesterday issued warrants of arrest against Napoles and her brother for alleged serious illegal detention of whistleblower Benhur Luy.
