Palace keen on forging final peace pact in Mindanao
MANILA – Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Sonny Coloma maintained on Thursday that the government is committed to forging a final peace agreement in Mindanao.
This was his reaction to reports that former Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) governor and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) chief Nur Misuari has declared independence for Mindanao and Sabah.
Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez discouraged Misuari from proceeding further with his plans, pointing to the peace agreement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) that is coming.
Rodriguez believes Misuari has just not been given attention in the peace negotiations with the MILF.
Rodriguez said he will never support a dismemberment of the republic.
He added that he has information that Misuari is attempting to recruit people, but he also heard that, so far, no one has joined Misuari.
