Archbishop: Beware of politicians with 'line to God'
MANILA - Beware of politicians who say they talk to God and receive His endorsement, according to a leader of the Catholic church in the Philippines.
Lingayen Archbishop Oscar Cruz said he would not vote for a candidate who claims he or she has an open line to God, saying this is one sure sign of danger.
“Ang sasabihin ko, di ko iboboto na ito ang qualification: ang kinakausap ng Diyos. Mag-ingat kayo sa kandidatong kinakausap ng Diyos. Matuto kayo,” Cruz, a former president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), said
Cruz did not name any candidate, but it will be recalled that President Arroyo once claimed that God “put me here” in the presidency. She also claimed in an interview with CNN that the late Pope John Paul II gave her the moral impetus to lead EDSA 2.
"It was after my conversation with the Pope, I finally found the – shall I describe it as courage or conviction – that I should make a break and join the bloodless revolution," Arroyo had said.
Catholics consider the Pope as Christ’s representative on earth.
Skills in governance
So far, none of the declared presidential aspirants have said that God talked to them and backed their decision to seek the presidency. But some politicians say the presidency is a matter of fate, which is like saying it is pre-destined by God.
For a man of the cloth, Cruz surprisingly downplayed the virtues of piousness and humility in picking a presidential candidate.
"Kung sasabihin ninyo ang kandidato ay kailangan banal, kailangan mapagdasal, kailangan ay mapagkumbaba, pwede ba? Kumuha kayo ng madre,” Cruz said.
Cruz said governance is a science and an art, and the foremost quality in a politician is someone who really knows how to govern.
“It is not just the virtues of piety but also virtues of science, knowledge of governance,” he added.

It is said that divination (predicting the future) is a work of the devil, for it is only God who knows the future. Yet, by saying that, "no matter who succeeds,” it will be a decided improvement on Ms Arroyo.", Cruz is EFFECTIVELY FORETELLING FUTURE EVENTS. Being an Archbishop who exercises moral ascendancy over the Catholics, Cruz should be very careful and think at least twice before making any statement to the press!!! I hope Cardinal Rosales or the Pope will discipline its ranks.

While the Catholic Church has maintained its policy of not supporting any political candidate in any election, Cruz statements indirectly condones religious leaders to run for political office. Coming from an Archbishop, I would surmise that this a new church policy?!
Don't tell me Mr. Cruz, that the Arroyo administration is worse that the Martial Law regime of Mr. Marcos??? Yet, no servant of God ran against the tyrant in any election during those times! In my perspective, there is only one clear conclusion that can be gleaned from such irresponsible statement and that is: SADLY, THE CATHOLIC HIERARCHY HAS LOST CONTROL OVER IT'S FLOCKS!!! No wonder a lot of new religious sects are coming out these days.

CBCP AT SIMBAHANG KATOLIKO
Pamula ng makisali ang simbahang katoliko sa pagluluklok ng mga opisyales sa gobyerno ay gumulo na ang pulitika sa Pilipinas. At iyong si Kardinal Sin ay isa sa nagpagulo dahil at ang simbahan ay malaki ang inpluwensiya sa mga mamamayang Pilipino dahil sa tiwala sa mga pari at obispo lalo na kay Sin. Iyong ibang Obispo ay tumatangap ng suhol galing sa palasyo ni Gloria. Kaya naghihirap ang mga Pilipino ay dahil na rin sa turo ng simbahan na manalangin sa Diyos at Siya ay magbibigay ng tulong. Dapat malaman ng tao na ang kasabihang: Nasa Tao ang Gawa, Nasa Diyos ang Awa ay mayroong katotohanan. Ang Diyos ay nagbibigay ng kaganapan sa espirituwal na pangangailangan ng mga tao. Ang mga tao ay dapat magsikhay sa kanilang buhay at handang harapin ang responsibidad nila sa kanilang sarili at kapwa tao. Ang gobyerno naman ay kung matino at maganda ang palakad at walang korapsiyon ay sigurado kong malalagay ang bansa at mga mamamayan sa magandang kinabukasan.

I am very respectful with our Church authorities. I recognize the many things that Archbishop Oca has done for the local Church in the Philippines. Kaya lang ilag ang marami sa kanya kasi talagang disciplinarian, and as a Canonist, he strictly adheres to Canon Law. I just wonder sometimes if he still feels anything in his heart, or is it due to old age? He has forgotten that one of the few qualifications of political candidates that CBCP recommends to Catholic faithful is piety, mapagdasal - MAY TAKOT SA DIYOS. (Remember the Ten commandments for Voting?) Kaya yung salitang "kung sasabihin ninyo ang kandidato kailangan banal, kailangan mapagdasal, kailangan ay mapagkumbaba, pwede ba? Kumuha kayo ng madre,” I think is not well thought of. Sasabihin na naman, taken out of context. I will not dare use these words in the pulpit, nor in any public forum because they can easily be misinterpreted. Mano po!
Bilang isang archbishop ng
Bilang isang archbishop ng ating bansa, siya na rin ang nag sabi na ang simbahan at ang politika ay magkaiba. Marami sa ating mga politiko ang talagang nangungurakot pero dapat sila ang nagiging daan upang mapaganda ang samahan ng bawat tao sa ating bansa. Ang simbahan ang siyang dapat gumabay sa mga taong di na nila kung ano ang kanilang ginagawa. Nakakagulat lamang dahil pati ang mga pari ay nakakapag salita ng mga ganun bagay. Daanin natin sa magandang komunikasyon at walang panghuhusga. Para sa mga politikong balak tumakbo, sarili ninyong desisyon ang inyong ginagawa. Kung inyong mamarapatin, kausapin nyo ang taong bayan ng may katapatan sa inyong pinapasok.
