MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – President Aquino arrived in Masbate early Sunday morning to oversee the search and rescue efforts for Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo.

The President and his party used a Philippine Air Force (PAF) C130 transport plane to go to Masbate.

“P-Noy leaves for Masbate to check on rescue operations for DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo and company,” said a post on the president’s Twitter account with a picture showing the president and senior government officials apparently before boarding the Philippine Air Force plane.

A Malacañang statement said Aquino flew to Masbate with Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas, Budget Secretary Butch Abad, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, and Cavite Representative Joseph Abaya at 5:45 a.m. to "personally observe the search and rescue effort."

"Throughout the night, search and rescue operations for Secretary Jesse Robredo and party continued. More assets are being deployed this morning to intensify the search," the Palace also said.

Roxas earlier said Aquino has been monitoring the developments on the search and rescue operations since news of the plane crash broke yesterday.

Robredo, his aide Senior Inspector Jun Abrasado, pilot Capt. Jessup Bahinting, and Nepalese co-pilot Kshitiz Chand, were on board a five-seater Piper Seneca aircraft when it crashed at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

As of posting time, only Abrazado has been rescued from the crash site.

Underwater search operations resumed early Sunday morning after it was postponed for several hours due to darkness.
