De Lima emboldened by alleged assassination plot
MANILA - Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said the alleged assassination plot against her in connection with the pork barrel scam is only emboldening her to see through the investigation.
In a text message to reporters, de Lima said she is still validating if there is truth to the plot against her, National Bureau of Investigation director Nonnatus Rojas and lawyer Levito Baligod.
Baligod, who is whistleblower Benhur’s Luy’s lawyer, said he has sources attesting to the assassination plot.
“We’re still validating that. In any case, I can only echo what Dir. Rojas had already expressed – such reported assassination plot, if true, cannot and will not deter us from doing our job. On the contrary, it can only embolden us to finish through the ongoing probe to its logical conclusion, i.e., the filing of charges,” de Lima said.
Malacanang, meanwhile, believes de Lima has enough security.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said she has yet to get a response from de Lima if the purported plot is true.
“I understand that she has sufficient security. However, I don't know if they intend to increase that in light of that particular story,” Valte said.
