Noynoy: Let us continue fight of Ninoy, Cory
Two days before the commemoration of the 26th anniversary of the assassination of former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., his son recalled the events from 1983 up to now in a privilege speech in the Senate Wednesday.
Opening his speech, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III recalled that it was prayers that made them get through when he and members of the Aquino family heard that Ninoy was assassinated in Manila last August 21, 1983 after returning from the United States.
He said that they immediately left Boston in Massachusetts, but not knowing how they would be received by the Filipino people. They joined their father in his three years of exile in the United States.
The senator said however that their fears were thrown away when they saw the deluge of Filipinos who attended his father’s funeral.
He said that his father was proven right when he said: “The Filipino is worth dying for!”
Aquino III recalled the events of the days of “People Power” when strongman and then-president Ferdinand Marcos was ousted and his mother Corazon Aquino installed into the leadership of the nation in 1986.
After her mother’s term as president, he said she reverted to “citizen Cory” until her death this August 1 after battling colon cancer.
Cory magic
In behalf of the Aquino family, the senator expressed his wholehearted appreciation to everyone who gave praises to the former president and expressed their condolences to her family.
According to the senator, the outpouring of sympathy and support proves that “Cory magic” remains alive.
He said however that its true meaning may be getting lost and forgotten. He reminded that it was not about his mother but the restoration of power to the Filipino people.
“We can only offer in reply to our parents, a gentle reminder that the destiny of our country cannot be shaped by one family alone,” he said.
Aquino III added that to truly honor the memory and sacrifices of his parents, each Filipino should ask himself if he remains true to what his parents fought for, if one opposes the proliferation of corruption in government or one is content to turn a blind eye.
(But our democracy is not a gift that we can just receive. It should be protected and nourished everyday. To honor Ninoy and Cory Aquino on August 21, maybe it should be proper to ask ourselves: Are doing enough as citizens to strengthen the institutions of our democracy?)
The senator meanwhile may have provided an answer to those urging him to run for higher office in the 2010 polls to continue his parents’ ideals.
(This is the continuing fight of Ninoy, Cory and all of us. And in this fight, expect always that you will not be alone!) From a report by Maricar Bautista, ABS-CBN News.
May nagawa na ba si Noynoy as a senator?
Seriously, ano ang mga naging accomplishments ni Noynoy as a senator?
Don't get me wrong. I have nothing but respect for Ninoy and Cory.
As a senator, Noynoy and Mar is also equally responsible for the current condition of the country.
"Move out of your parent's shadow. Be your own man"
Eto naman ang sa akin. GAWIN NINYO ANG TRABAHO NIYO. HUWAG YUNG PURO SISI KAYO SA ADMINISTRASYON EH KASAMA NAMAN KAYO SA PROBLEMA!
In Memory of Ninoy
26 long years ago
After I have shed the last drop of my blood,
In that glory day of August 21,
I faced my Creator with an overwhelming pride
Within my heart
Lord, I said.
I have done my share,
I have sacrificed my life so my people may live in lasting peace,
Go back, He said.
Look at your country and your people today,
And see how they made a mockery of what you have died for.
And so, my dear kababayans,
I came back today not as a leaving mass,
But as a transient ghost,
And this is my story.
My wife Corazon, my family and I
Were sent to exile to the dream land,
Where I took the opportunity to gain more
Strength to fight again for the freedom I’ve been crying for.
The first thing I desired when I felt strong enough,
Was to go back to my mother land, despite the eminent danger of life,
And there I shall begin to fight the tyrant conjugal dictators
And to die if need be for a free and democratic way of life.
And as bravely set my few steps on the tarmac,
I heard a deafening shot behind me,
And I felt an excruciating pain runs trough my body,
As I fell down to kiss my Beloved Land and whispered
“The Filipinos are worth dying for”
And then everything went blank.
Today, as I tried to observe things around me,
Pride swells my heart, for I could see my people
Are again clenching their fist and marching on the streets,
I could see them bravely and aired their voices freely.
I could my peers in the media are covering every events
And criticizing every abuse and excesses of our leaders
I could see their vigilance to guard the freedom and democracy
That many have died for.
But as I looked and listened more closely,
blood freezes within my heart.
For I could see my people are marching not on their free will
I could hear them shouting not from their own voices
Rather for the voice and ill-will of few people
Who are hungry of power and with hidden agenda.
I could see my peers in the media are being paid for
By every hooks and crooks in the name of Free Press.
I could see my peers are being used by individuals
To advance their own political interest,
In the guise of freedom of expression.
This is not the kind of democracy that I longed and died for.
In sheer desperation I hurried back to my creator and cried out.
Lord, Forgive Them for They Know Not What They Do.
True. I might say na tayong
True. I might say na tayong mga pinoy ang simula ng pagbabago
Di ka nag-iisa!
Ituloy ang laban!Di ka nag-iisa!
