Bachelor P-Noy rejects divorce; mum on Kris' woes
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines’ most powerful bachelor is against divorce for fundamental reasons.
“Definitely I cannot support something like what you do in Las Vegas, yung stereotype that you get married in the morning, you can get divorced in the afternoon," President Benigno Aquino III, who is the country's first bachelor president, said.
Aquino's belief in the sanctity of marriage is not absolute. He also recognizes that marriage is not for everyone.
“I do recognize that there have been unions that were wrong, that no matter what interventions are done, no matter what counseling is done, they really cannot stay together. There is danger to either one or both parties in the marriage especially the children. Divorce is a no-no. But in legal separation, you can assert that there really are irreconcilable differences,” Aquino said.
The Philippines is only one of two countries that does not recognize divorce, the reason why some lawmakers have filed a bill last week seeking the legalization of divorce in the country.
The President’s own sister, actress- TV host Kris Aquino, is going through a widely publicized separation from her athlete spouse.
Ms. Aquino has filed a petition to nullify her marriage to basketball player James Yap. Her marriage woes have been aired on national television.
But petitions like these are usually opposed by government lawyers because the natural inclination is to preserve marriage unions.
Asked whether he believes the Office of the Solicitor General should cease from opposing Ms. Aquino’s petition, the President told reporters he is duty bound to keep his opinion to himself.
“As far as my sister and James are concerned parang again, if I say any opinion, it might influence the workings of the courts, the fiscals," Aquino said.
Don't just think. Think right.
To all of these self-righteous and hypocrite people who wanted to impose continuous hardship with already ailing lives of our fellow Filipino's.
Why don't we put all available options on the table and let those concerned individuals chose what solution suits them best given that they satisfy any legal obligation they must comply?
Is that too much for the "free people" and the so called Filipino "freedom"?
And why don't you stop shoving your obsolete-non-functional-old-age rhetorics of this and that and try opening your brain for some fresh air and start living in the 21st century where every viable option is used for the benefit of majority.
Not politically and religiously but what is really needed for the Filipino people to feel we are being heard and being given what we really needed.
We know our beloved country will be better without these hypocrites and selfish sheep disguised individuals.
think
we would not intentionally marry someone who is psychotic, unable to perform sex, or one who is severely disabled, only to divorce them later. in divorce, lawyers get richer. now that we know that love is not the be all and end all of marriage; before marrying, we ought to have a good look and check the history of our would be partners, see how well they can commit to a marriage and if they have the means and capability to support and make a marriage last. we might not have second chance.
Based on experience?
Well, obviously ABNoy has no experience in having a tied up relationship or commitment so he has a shortage of understanding in what goes on in a marriage. Again, I'm reiterating other causes or justifiable reasons for a divorce like having a psychotic or a maniac partner, infidelity, incapable of romantic or sexual relationship, lifetime disabilities and many more that could stuck a person forever with a monster. Divorce is not the final answer but some people must have other options than suffering. Everybody deserves to be happy. Hypocrisy or just plain old Pinoy machismo/pride will not be a relief for most dying relationship or endangered lives.
