Koko willing to give up pork barrel
MANILA - Citing strong public clamor and anger, Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III urged the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee headed by Sen. TG Guingona to immediately conduct an inquiry in aid of legislation on the alleged P10 billion pork barrel scam.
Pimentel said the Senate can no longer ignore the anger, resentment and clamor of the public for the Senate to investigate what might be the biggest corruption scandal in the history of the country in the past decade.
A series of Philippine Daily Inquirer reports earlier said senators and congressmen gave an estimated P10 billion in pork barrel funds to fake non-government organizations created by businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles.
Pimentel said the investigation should focus on how to plug the loopholes in the system so that public funds would go to real beneficiaries and projects.
He said Congress should be able to craft a law that will make sure that public funds are not wasted or stolen.
Just like most Filipinos, the senator was angered by the amound of corruption and abuse on the pork barrel.
He said that if reforms cannot save the pork barrel, then he is willing to give up his pork.
He also called on other senators to support his resolution calling for a Senate investigation on the scam
