MANILA - House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales II denied talks that the Liberal Party (LP) is already laying out the groundwork for a possible term extension for President Benigno Aquino III.

Gonzales said neither the stalwarts of the LP nor the House leadership have received marching orders to work on charter change centered on the political provisions of the Constitution.

Gonzales says no formal or informal talks on the matter have taken place.

Following a television interview where Aquino admitted entertaining the possibility of extending his term, Gonzales said talks of political Cha-cha are limited to media reports.

He said they will continue pushing for charter change on economic provisions which has long been pending at the lower House.

Until a lawmaker files a bill on political charter change, Gonzales said they can make no move.

He also noted that the LP will not be able to push for political Cha-cha alone.

As part of the ruling majority, LP has 113 members in the lower House.

To push for a controversial measure such as political Cha-cha, they would need three-fourths of the vote.

Deliberations on the economic provisions will begin on Tuesday next week.
