MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is continuing its investigation into the passport of a certain Joseph Lim Pe, which was believed to have been used by fugitive former Palawan Governor Joel Reyes to flee the country.

The passport of Lim Pe was issued by the Department Foreign Affairs (DFA) on February 3, 2012.

But a passport with different photo and signature was used by Lim Pe when he left the country for Vietnam on March 18, 2012.

Former Palawan Governor Joel Reyes is said to have left the country for Vietnam, under Lim Pe's name.

Reyes has a standing warrant of arrest for his alleged involvement in the killing of environmentalist and journalist Doctor Gerry Ortega.

When Lim Pe renewed his passport, he submitted his old passport, which the DFA discovered, was owned by another person.

A source says the address on the passport, 72 Dapitan St., Quezon City, was written on Lim Pe's renewal application.

But ABS-CBN News discovered that another person lives in the house.

According to records of the Bureau of Immigration, a Joseph Lim Pe left the country on March 18 but they could not confirm if it was indeed Reyes who used the passport.

The DFA cancelled Lim Pe's passport last Friday.

Now, authorities must alert other countries to deport anyone using the invalid document. -- ANC
