Ochoa designated as DILG OIC
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - President Benigno Aquino III has assigned Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. as the officer-in-charge of the Department of Interior and Local Government following the confirmation of the death of its chief, Jesse Robredo, an ABS-CBNnews.com source earlier said.
Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office Secretary Ramon Carandang confirmed the news on Tuesday afternoon.
Aquino earlier took over the reins of the DILG when search operations commenced for Robredo and the two pilots of the Piper Seneca that crashed off the waters of Masbate last Saturday.
Robredo's body was retrieved from the Ticao Channel on Tuesday morning.
Robredo’s colleagues in the government service remember him as an inspiring leader.
For his part, Ochoa said: “Secretary Robredo was a dedicated public servant and a champion of good governance whose track record in public service has been an inspiration to all those who believe in government as an instrument for positive change.”
He added: “Our prayers go out to the families of Secretary Robredo and his companions, as well as to his constituents in Naga and the officials and employees of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, who lost a leader who tirelessly worked and contributed greatly to President Aquino's campaign for good governance as a means to improve the lives of our countrymen.”
