Ping thanks Robredo for support while in hiding
MANILA, Philippines – Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson revealed on Tuesday that Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo “personally” helped him when he went into hiding in 2010.
Lacson said he will always be thankful to Robredo, and that his passing is “a sad day for Filipinos.”
“I will always remember and be thankful to Sec. Jesse Robredo for personally albeit quietly helping me during my difficult time while in hiding,” Lacson said in a statement.
Lacson also shared that Robredo tried to convince Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila de Lima to heed the Court of Appeals (CA) decision to junk the warrant of arrest issued by a Manila court.
“Not known to all, he tried his level best to convince DOJ Sec. de Lima to comply with the Court of Appeals decision reversing the Manila Regional Trial Court's probable cause ruling against me,” Lacson said.
“He was so real and natural as a person in dealing with people, close friends or not,” he added.
Robredo was found dead on Tuesday following a fatal plane crash off the coast of Masbate on Saturday.
Lacson, who was tagged in the double murder of publicist Salvador "Bubby" Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito in November 2000, surfaced after 14 months in hiding to evade arrest in connection with the case.
