LFTRB suspends franchise of bus firm that killed Gersbach
MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LFTRB) on Sunday suspended the franchise of the Guevarra Bus Line that rammed into a vehicle that killed its passengers, among them, Melody Gersbach, 2009 Binibining Pilipinas International.
LFTRB Chair Dante Lantin said the bus liner's franchise is suspended for a month.
He said that based on the initial investigation of the LFTRB in Region 5, the bus that killed Gersbach, her make-up artist, Alden Orense; and, their driver, Santos Ramos Jr., was found to have mechanical trouble, as its tie rod broke, which is why the driver lost control of the bus.
Gersbach landed in the Top 15 of the 2009 Miss International contest held in China. The contest was won by Miss Mexico.
Police said the victim's red Toyota Innova was cruising along a highway in Sitio Banasi, Barangay Pawili when it was rammed by a Guevarra bus past 11 a.m. on Saturday.
