MANILA, Philippines – After posting bail, Ilocos Sur Representative Ronald Singson is now trying to convince Hong Kong authorities to lower the drug charges against him to mere possession.

Singson was released from prison in Hong Kong after posting bail Thursday.

He is facing drug trafficking charges after he was caught carrying cocaine at the Chek Lap Kok International Airport on July 11th.

Laboratory tests showed that Singson was only carrying 6.7 grams of cocaine and not 26.1 grams as earlier reported.

“Ang nangyari talaga doon, kasama yung packaging, yun yung wineigh nila that was the discrepancy,” said Singson.

Some lawyers in Hong Kong say those caught with less than 10 grams of illegal drugs are usually given only a suspended sentence. With this, Singson hopes he will be allowed to return home soon.

The lawmaker said he regretted what happened and apologizes to his family and the public for the incident.

“Siyempre pinagsisisihan ko yung mga kaganapan and hanggang ngayon hindi ko pa rin maisip kung bakit nangyari yun. Pero sabi ko nga noong nandoon ako sa corrections facility, kesa pagsisihan, too late na para magsisi pero pinaghahandaan naman namin yung kaso," said Singson.

He is also appealing to his colleagues at the lower house to not to judge him at this time.

“Of course I was aware na may repercussions. Unfortunately yun ang consequences nung pangyayaring ito. Pero ang sinasabi ko nga bago ako husgahan tapusin muna natin yung kaso ko,” he said.

Meanwhile, House leaders said they cannot act on Singson's case just yet as the House Committee on Ethics has yet to be organized.

Also, they are waiting for Singson's arraignment on September 7th.

“Within the coming weeks, we should have constituted the ethics committee. I’m sure house plenary will not act on anything unless there is a hearing first in ethics committee,” said House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte.

Belmonte added, “I don’t think we can just close our eyes on the fact that all of this happened”.

For now, Singson said he will focus on his defense.

ilan ba kayong addict at drug

ilan ba kayong addict at drug dealer dyan sa congress?.kapag hindi nyo yan pinatalsok sa congress, ibig sabihin majority kayo dyan sa house addict or drug dealer. di ba?

No shame

Ronald Singson will no doubt pay other politicians so that he survives as a congressman. Really, if he were an honorable politician, he would resign. There must be so much money to be made in politics to hang in there no matter what. Trafficking or possession it doesn't matter, he had drugs with him, and he doesn't seem to be denying it either. So much for his fathers story about being set up, but then again he too is a lying crook as well. How do we remove such trash from politics? BTW what was his business during this trip? Have tax payers paid for it as well?

The Bail

The bail was courtesy of PORK BARELL!

Is there a Recall Election in the Philippines ?

"A recall election (also called a recall referendum or representative recall) is a procedure by which voters can remove an elected official from office through a direct vote (plebiscite), initiated when sufficient voters sign a petition."

Maybe the nation (People) can add this to the Philippine constitution.
