MANILA - The wake that will be held in Malacañang for Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo will be open to the public.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte told ABS-CBN News that the wake at the Palace will be open to the public starting tomorrow, Friday, from 7 PM to 11 PM and on Saturday, from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Valte said necrological services will be held at the Palace by the various communities of Secretary Robredo.

Preparations were underway Thursday in Malacañang for the arrival of the remains of Secretary Robredo for the two-night wake.

Members of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) did a dry run of the arrival honors that they will render upon the arrival of the remains on Friday.

Every step of the honors was rehearsed to ensure precision: from the arrival of the funeral procession, marching of the PSG honor guards, and playing of the military band.

The arrival honors will include a gun salute.

The Committee on Funeral Arrangements and Burial of the late Secretary announced that the remains of Secretary Robredo will lie in state specifically at the Kalayaan Hall.

The PSG will provide the vigil guards until Sunday morning.

They will then render departure honors and solemnly escort the remains to Villamor Airbase before the remains are brought back to Naga.

The Palace said it is only fitting that the late secretary lie in state in Kalayaan Hall, formerly known as Maharlika Hall during the Marcos years and which was renamed by former President Cory Aquino as Kalayaan Hall, “to commemorate the restoration of democracy” in the country.

“As part of the generation inspired to enter public service by the EDSA People Power Revolution, it is only fitting that the late Secretary lie in state in Kalayaan Hall, Malacañan Palace,” the Committee said.

On a more practical level, Kalayaan Hall was chosen because it is the most accessible to the public since it is situated in “sprawling grounds.”
