MANILA, Philippines -- A consumer rights group filed a petition before the Commission on Audit, asking for a lifestyle check and inspection of the properties and wealth of Philippine National Police Chief Dir. Gen. Alan Purisima.

The Coalition of Filipino Consumers (CFC) has accused Purisima of being involved in controversies such as the multi-million gun licensing contract, the P25-million “White House” and other alleged properties not included in his Statement of Assets and Liabilities (SALN).

(CFC) Secretary General Perfecto Tagalog said they filed their petition before the Office of COA Chairperson Grace Pulido Tan.

“We believe all public officials are accountable to the Filipino people, especially those whose leadership is tainted with corruption,” Tagalog said in his petition.

Tagalog said they had been asking for a copy of Purisima’s SALN, but the PNP official had refused to do so.

“The PNP Chief is facing charges of plunder before the Ombudsman. When news of the deal broke out, the PNP chief reportedly terminated the contract with Werfast,” Tagalog said.

Purisima, however, still enjoys the trust of President Benigno Aquino III amid reports of the rising number of crimes.

Speaking to reporters, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said the government is doing all it can to stop criminal elements. He said this includes the stricter implementation of the registration of firearms.

Asked if the President continues to support Purisima, he said: "Nandoon pa ang pagtitiwala ng Pangulo kay PNP (Philippine National Police) Chief Director General Alan Purisima."
