'Habagat' death toll now at 21
MANILA -- The death toll from the torrential monsoon rains enhanced by tropical storm "Maring" has risen to 21, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Saturday.
The NDRRMC identified the latest fatalities as 12-year-old Ed Paulo and 21-year-old Leonel Montilla.
Paulo was found at a river along Barangay Carmencita in Floridablanca, Pampanga while Montilla was a drowning victim from Barangay Habay 1 in Bacoor City, Cavite.
Four people remain missing while at least 30 others have been injured in the heavy rains and massive floods.
At least 541,554 families or 2,515,795 individuals across 1,822 barangays of 138 towns, 33 cities and 17 provinces were affected by the strong rains since Sunday.
Over P494 million of agriculture and more than P138 million of infrastructure in Regions 1, 4-A, 4-B and CAR have been damaged.
