AFP on standby during Million People March
MANILA -- Soldiers will be on standby on Monday during the “The Million People March” in case the police would need augmenting.
"That (deployment of soldiers) will depend on the request of the [National Capital Region Police Office]. If they need security assistance, then that's the only time we will provide (soldiers as augmentation)," Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Joint Task Force-National Capital Region commander Col. Manuel Gonzales said.
He said they will meet later Sunday to discuss the matter.
As of Sunday, the National Capital Region is still on normal alert ahead of Monday's protest.
"So far, we have not monitored a threat that will disrupt the activity tomorrow....We are on normal alert or white alert condition. We have not monitored a threat or whatsoever," Gonzales said.
