No center stage, only 'tiangge' of principles in pork rally
MANILA – There will be no center stage in Luneta during the "Million People March" protest, one of the participants of the anti-pork barrel rally said on Monday.
"Ang mangyayari ay parang magiging tiangge o ideya ng prinsipyo, isang pagre-recommit sa pag-big natin para sa bayan," said lawyer Eirene Aguilar, one of the participants of the anti-pork barrel protest which was conceived in social networking sites.
Aguilar said the protest will continue despite President Benigno Aquino III's announcement on Friday that he wants the pork barrel, formally known as Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), abolished in favor of a new and stricter system.
Aguilar said the protesters are not contented with Aquino's "abolition" of the pork, saying merely giving it a new name and mechanism will not eradicate corruption in government.
She said Aquino's statement may have even emboldened the Filipino citizens to make a stronger call for the total scrapping of the pork barrel funds, which are allocated to senators and congressmen.
