MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino urged newly appointed Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno to make fair decisions as a way to restore the public's confidence in the judiciary.
Aquino made the statement during the commemoration of the National Heroes Day at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Wala dapat itong kilingan, mayaman man o mahirap, karaniwang Pilipino man o nasa kapangyarihan."
The President said Sereno should not lose faith should trials come her way, saying that the Filipino people are behind her.
Makakaasa kang kasangga mo ang sambayanang Pilipino," he said.
Aquino paid homage to war veterans, martyrs, and cited as well the heroism of the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo.
He said Robredo led a simple life who placed the welfare of others above his own interests, setting a good example to Filipinos.
Aquino urged Filipinos to "awaken" the heroism in them and do what they can to make a difference in the lives of others.
The President also cited the individuals and groups that helped in the rescue and relief efforts in the wake of the recent typhoons and flooding.
