'Pork' whistleblowers fail to appear before prosecutor
MANILA – The Manila Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday reset the preliminary investigation into the perjury case filed by businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles against the whistleblowers of the pork barrel scam.
Manila Assistant Prosecutor Philger Noel Inovejas said the preliminary investigation on the case has been reset to September 4 after the respondents failed to appear in today's proceedings.
Inovejas said if respondents Merlina Suñas, Benhur Luy, Arturo Luy, Gertrudes Luy, Arthur Luy and Annabelle Luy failed to appear before the handling fiscal to file their respective counter-affidavits, their right to explain their side will be considered waived.
The perjury case stemmed from the serious illegal detention case filed by the Luys against Napoles and her brother, Reynald Lim, with the Department of Justice.
Napoles and Lim are currently at large after a local court issued warrants of arrest against them.
Napoles is being accused by the whistleblowers of setting up fake non-government organizations to pocket pork barrel funds from lawmakers. – with a report from Zhander Cayabyab, dzMM
