Janet Napoles moved to Makati City Jail
MANILA (2nd UPDATE) – Businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles, tagged as one of the major players in the alleged P10 billion pork barrel scam, was transferred to the Makati City Jail Thursday night.
Napoles was brought to the Makati jail from Camp Crame, where she was detained since Wednesday night, at around 11:10 p.m.
By around 11:20 p.m., a white coaster carrying Napoles arrived at the Makati City Jail.
Interior Sec. Mar Roxas, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, Atty. Lorna Kapunan and Napoles' husband Jimmy Napoles were seen accompanying her as she entered the jail.
Napoles was handcuffed and wore a bulletproof vest during the transfer.
Roxas said Napoles will be detained in a separate air-conditioned room and will be watched by 2 female guards at all times.
Roxas said the room will have a couch and a desk.
“Hindi siya sinama sa 103 female detainees. ‘Yung isang opisina dito ay ginawang detention area niya. Ginawan ng paraan ng chief PNP para magkaroon ng 24 hours na bantay,” Roxas told reporters outside the Makati City Jail.
“Ang importante dito, sinisiguro natin na ang kanyang nalalaman or maisisiwalat na ebidensiya ay napre-preserve natin dahil walang masamang nangyayari sa kanya,” he added.
One of the lawyers of Napoles, Atty. Bettina Zamora, filed an urgent motion for reconsideration, requesting that Napoles be detained instead to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig or Camp Crame.
Kapunan said they will respect the court’s decision on the motion, saying their priority is the security and safety of Napoles.
“We’re not complaining about the comfort. We are very happy about the security arrangement, ‘yun lang. ‘Yung discomfort niya ay part of surrendering, hindi naman kami makakapili kung saan siya ide-detain basta assured kami at maraming nagbabantay diyan sa loob. Comfort is the least of our worries,” she said.
Kapunan added that Napoles only knew of the transfer at around 9 p.m., when Roxas and other Palace officials went to Camp Crame.
Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Sr. Supt. Reuben Theodore Sindac said Napoles, who is diagnosed with diabetes, underwent medical check-up before she left Camp Crame.
She underwent another check-up upon her arrival at the Makati jail.
The commitment order on her transfer was released Thursday after the Criminal Investigation and Detention Group-National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR), through Sr. Supt. Robeto Fajardo, returned the arrest warrant of Napoles to the court.
Roxas, Lacierda, and PNP Chief Director General Alan Purisima inspected the Makati facility before clearing the transfer.
Her brother, Reynald Lim, is still at large. A P5 million bounty has been offered for any information that may lead to his arrest.
