Chavit faces raps for 'mauling' partner
MANILA – The common-law wife of deputy National Security Adviser Luis 'Chavit' Singson has filed a complaint against the former Ilocos Sur governor for reportedly beating her up last week after she was allegedly caught in the company of another man.
Singson faces raps for violating Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act after he and his bodyguards allegedly beat up the complainant, Rachel 'Che' Singson, and her male companion.
The assault reportedly took place in Che’s Quezon City apartment, which is being rented by Singson.
Singson said he has five children with Che.
In an interview over dzMM on Wednesday, Singson said it was the second time he caught his wife in the company of a younger man.
“Last year, nahuli ko ito, iba ang kasama, isang actor na bata,” Singson said.
He, however, forgave Che this January and agreed to her request not to separate. He said he even rented her an apartment beside his Corinthian Garden residence in Quezon City.
“For the sake of the children…sabi niya ‘p’wede ikuha mo na lang ako ng apartment d'yan sa tabi ng bahay’,” said Singson.
Monitored by bodyguards
But after that first alleged indiscretion, Singson said he had his wife’s movements monitored by his bodyguards.
“So pinamonitor ko ulit at nahuli ko. Ibang lalaki naman ngayon,” he said.
Singson said he confronted the two inside Che’s apartment, and this led to the reported assault.
He, however, would not say directly whether he ordered his bodyguards to do the beating or whether he participated in the assault.
“Basta nabugbog sila at naparusahan,” Singson said.
Singson said Che should consider herself lucky to have him for a husband.
“Ang ibang lalaki diyan, pag nahuli nila ay pinapatay. Ako nga mabait, hindi ko pinatay. ‘Yong first time, siyang nanloko hindi ko [siya] ginalaw, pinalayas ko lang,” he said.
Singson is a known political warlord. He was instrumental in causing the downfall of former President Joseph Estrada when he accused him of accepting collections from the illegal numbers game, jueteng.

FILE A CASE...
Go Ms. Tiongson, tama naman na advisan talaga Ms. Tiongson na mag file nga case against Chavit kasi she doesn't know what is the right thing to do right now kasi gulo nga isip niya sa mga pangyayari. But the best thing is file a case, kahit nagawa nga niya na magka boyfriend, right naman niya yon eh, kasi nga hiwalay na sila since November. Bakit si Chavit Singson lang ba ang may karapatan na maghanap ng kaligayahan niya? Kung totoo na hiwalay na sila at hindi din naman sila kasal may karapatan si Ms. Tiongson na maghanap ng ka relasyon. She has all her freedom because they are not married, and the fact that they were separated na, he doesn't have the right to get mad, kahit magalit pa sya wala na siyang karapatan sa babae....Having a constant communication kasi may anak nga sila eh, that doesn't mean sila pa rin. HOY FILIPINO PEOPLE< wake up kahit nga hindi sila kasal , kasi pag ang babae kasi magmahal kahit hindi pinakasalan ok nalang kasi mahal nga niya, that's why a lot of Filipino ends this way.
i despise...
I am not rationalizing Singson's actions and by all means he should suffer the legal consequences of his acts. Yet, what I must criticize is De Lima's (CHR's head) ill-conceived comments. For all intents and purposes Singson must be presumed innocent until the contrary is proven beyond reasonable doubt. De Lima is quick to conclude that Singson's comment is arrogant. In my view this is indirectly prejudging Singson's case. She even cited their Code of Conduct to validate her comments.
This prompted me to interpose several questions to her. First, is chastising a co-government official before any case had been filed and terminated, within the ambit of your Code of Conduct? Second, is evident bias and partiality one of your professional responsibilities? Third, is "URGING" a victim to file a case, one of the avowed purposes of your office (legally, this is ambulance-chasing and against the Code of Professional Responsibility of a lawyer)? Sorry, but I despise self-righteous people!
To Rachel Tiongson: Sana mabasa niya ito. You have the right to file a case and vindicate yourself. But let me just remind you that there is a legal dictum in our judicial system thus, "IF YOU MUST COME TO SEEK THE REMEDIES FROM THE COURT, YOU MUST COME WITH CLEAN HANDS."
