'Cory magic' not enough to win, says Ermita
MANILA - The so-called "Cory magic" that worked for the late Mrs. Aquino will work for her son, Senator Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III, but it might not be enough for a successful presidential bid in 2010, a Malacañang official said Wednesday.
"Definitely that (Cory magic) will work very favorable in his favor. But as to assurance of victory, it's still premature to say," Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita told reporters.
Ermita added that a candidate's popularity is not enough to ensure victory in the elections. He said the Liberal Party (LP) should be able to convert Aquino's popularity into votes.
"Ang popularidad ngayon does not mean popularidad at the time when the people start going to precincts to vote (Popularity does not mean popularity at the time when the people start going to precincts to vote)," Ermita said.
He added: "Things can easily change. It's a big boost, but let's see how this can be translated to actual votes."
Aquino moved closer to declaring his presidential bid in 2010 after the LP president, Senator Mar Roxas, withdrew his candidacy on Tuesday.
Roxas said he was giving way to Aquino's possible run in the 2010 presidential race. Aquino has not confirmed if he will run for president.
Ermita said Roxas' declaration on Tuesday made Malacañang realize that the LP is still a "formidable" political party.
"Buhay pa ang Liberal Party. (The Liberal Party is still alive). Liberal Party is a party to contend with," he said.
Ermita's party, the newly merged Lakas-Kampi-CMD, has yet to start select its standard-bearer for 2010.
However, there were reports last week that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo favors Vice-President Noli de Castro over Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, who has not been able to make significant headway in the presidential surveys.

Though I admire the Aquinos pero this time kung lalaban siya for president dahil sa sinusulong ng Liberal Party , iba muna mamanokin ko bilang Presidenr( obvious naman that they (Liberal Party)are taking advantage of recent turn out ng mga Filipinos in favor Aquino Family )
pero this is not enough to convince us na magkakaroon ng pagbabago , reform sa ating bansa ,,dahil lahat naman ng mga pulitiko ay recycle , walang freshness kung baga. In case naman na manalo si Noynoy wala pa ring assurance na masosolve ang problem ng bansa dahil babalik rin ang mga dating ka alyado ng mga Aquinos at mga oppositionists (term ko lang yun)
Strategy n=na yan ng partido pero kawawa talaga si Mar Roxas napaka early pa para maging batayan ang survey, sana hindi magsisi ang Partido sa sinusulong / sinulong nilang si Noynoy.

Maniwala tayo sa kanya na hindi enough ang magic ni tita cory kasi sila ang mga naghahanda para kontrahin ito. They very much know what they're capable of doing. I believed with Ermita 100% that the Cory magic will not work for her son to win the election unless he will apply the same strategy that Arroyo did to win the election. Hello "Garci" where are you now...Right
