NBI to Kapunan: Name names
MANILA - The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is challenging the camp of lawyer Lorna Kapunan to name the alleged agent who tried to extort money from businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles.
NBI spokesperson Cecilio Zamora said everyone in the bureau is affected by the accusation.
The agency is facing several accusations, including one from President Benigno Aquino III himself. The Chief Executive said there are agents and officials there who tipped off Napoles of her impending arrest.
On Monday, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima announced NBI Director Nonnatus Rojas has filed his irrevocable resignation out of delicadeza. She said she will halt the resignation, however.
Earlier, Rojas said the whole agency was hurt when Aquino said there were “less trustworthy” agents and officials from within their ranks.
Rojas said the NBI will nonetheless cooperate in whatever probe the government will be doing in connection with Aquino’s allegations.
“Nasaktan ang kabuuan ng aming hanay, ngunit ang NBI at ang aming mga kawani ay meron namang experience sa ganito. Itinuturing naming na stage ito na dapat tahakin...I-o-overcome namin ito,” he said.
Zamora said the whole agency is saddened by Rojas’ decision. He said they are still hoping Rojas will not push through with the resignation. – with reports from Zyann Ambrosio, ABS-CBN News
