SC to Congress: Answer plea to junk pork barrel
MANILA - The Supreme Court (SC) has directed Congress to file its comment on the petition filed by the Social Justice System that seeks to declare the pork barrel system unconstitutional.
The House of Representatives and Senate were given a period of 10 days to file their comment.
The group's petition, filed last week through its president Atty. Samson Alcantara, also sought the issuance of a writ of prohibition to stop Congress from passing any law that will allocate funds for the pork barrel system in any form or name.
The group said that the assailed system has led to the misappropriation of billions of state funds, and thus, is tantamount to betrayal of public trust.
