MANILA - There is now a bill in the Lower House seeking to impose an entrance fee for the country’s casinos.

Misamis Oriental Representative Peter Unabia’s House Bill No. 4859 wants to impose the hefty entrance fee of P3,500 on local casino patrons.

The explanatory note said the measure "would discourage the locals from gambling in casinos."

It said "the amount realized in requiring entrance fees will serve as additional revenues for the socio-civic programs of the government."

Unabia said Presidential Decree 1896 is hardly observed. The PD says a resident must have a gross income for the previous year of at least P50,000, as certified by the Bureau of Internal Revenue, in order to play in the casino.
