Prosecutors' league urges PNoy: Keep NBI chief
MANILA - The Prosecutors League of the Philippines (PLP) urged President Aquino not to accept the irrevocable resignation tendered by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Nonnatus Rojas.
In a statement, PLP president Jaime Umpa said Rojas, a former Regional State Prosecutor, would be a great loss to the government's lead investigating agency if he leaves.
Rojas tendered his resignation on Monday, triggered by a banner story of the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) quoting Mr. Aquino to have said that the NBI "has its share of 'less trustworthy' officials and agents" under him (Rojas).
"We appeal to our President not to accept Noni's (Rojas) resignation albeit irrevocable. It would be a great loss not only to the premier investigating bureau but also to the ongoing investigation and prosecution against responsible officials in the pork barrel scam," Umpa said.
He described Rojas as a dedicated public servant.
"We need people in government like Noni who is intelligent, sincere, honest with unsullied integrity and one who knows the true meaning of delicadeza," Umpa said.
Justice Secretary Leila De Lima is also on a mission to convince Rojas to reconsider his resignation, saying she does not want to lose "a good man."
