MANILA, Philippines - The anti-graft court Sandiganbayan has filed criminal charges against a former administrator of the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (Namria) for understating the value of his personal assets from 2001 to 2002.

Sandiganbayan Assistant Special Prosecutor II Terence Fernando said Isidro Fajardo, former NAMRIA chief, was charged last week with falsifying public documents in his 2001 and 2002 statement of assets, liabilities (SAL) and net worth.

Fernando said that Fajardo owned an AMC Jeep (WKB-380), a Cherokee sports utility vehicle (XBA-523) and a Rebuilt (CSG-811), and declared the total value of the 3 vehicles at just P558,482.50.

Ombudsman investigators said the vehicles were actually worth P1,558,482.50.

Morever, Fajardo declared ownership of a property in Tanay, Rizal, the Sierra Madre Hotel and Restaurant, and stated this was worth P5.5 million, but which was assessed by the Ombudsman at P7.07 million.

Fernando said that as a government official, Fajardo was obliged to fully disclose his real and personal properties, including their true and correct values.

Sandiganbayan set Fajardo’s bail bond at P24,000 for each case.

In May 2009, Ombudsman Ma. Merceditas Gutierrez approved the filing of a forfeiture case against Fajardo’s assets despite the latter’s contention that all of his assets were acquired through honest means.

Prior to his appoitment as Namria chief in 2000, Fajardo was an officer of the Philippine Army from 1967 to 1999.
