MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino is set to visit the United States later this month, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) formally announced on Monday.

In a press statement, the DFA said Aquino will be in the United States from September 20 to 26, where he will be meeting with US President Barack Obama, as well as his counterparts in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

He is set to address the 65th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 24, where he will also meet with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

On the same day, Aquino will be the coordinator for the 2nd ASEAN-US Leaders Meeting in New York, where the country currently serves as Country Coordinator.

"The ASEAN-US Leaders Meeting will also provide an occasion for President Aquino to meet not only with the ASEAN Leaders but also with the U.S. President," the DFA press release said.

The $434-million Millennium Challenge Compact agreement between the Philippine government and the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corp. (MCC) is also expected to be signed in New York, the DFA said.

The government will use this funding for programs on poverty reduction, revenue generation and infrastructure development, the DFA said.

Aquino is also set to meet with key executives of several major US corporations and with members of the Filipino-American community in New York and San Francisco.

Aside from these meetings, he will also visit the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York - where his mother, former President Corazon Aquino, studied - and will deliver a speech at the Council of Foreign Relations.

The President’s visit to the US will culminate in a Gala Dinner of the Philippine Development Forum where he will deliver a keynote speech, the DFA said.

He is expected to be back in the Philippines on September 28.

Aquino earlier cancelled his planned first overseas trip as leader to Indonesia and Vietnam.

Aquino had planned an overnight visit to Indonesia before flying to Vietnam, part of a largely ceremonial round of visits traditionally carried out by newly elected leaders to neighboring countries.

He said he now intends to meet his Indonesian and Vietnamese counterparts in Hanoi along with the other leaders of the ASEAN during the 10-nation group's next summit on October 28.

Let me try answering your question.
Bush and Arroyo, both stayed in power for almost a decade long, Bush having won the 2000 polls, while Arroyo replaced the Ousted Erap in 2001. Both were re-elected in 2004 for their second term. The US experienced the so-called "WAR ON TERROR" wherein they struggled against the Taliban forces after the 9/11 attacks, and declared war against Iraq to fight off Sadam Hussein's forces in 2003. Military operation costs were at $900 billion by 2008, topping the expenditures during WWII. Taxpayers may likely be required to pay $416 billion to $817 billion over the next decade, albeit deployment of troops. The US has experienced the worst economic meltdown in 2008 since the Great Depression.
The Philippines was beset by the worst political scandals--Hello Garci, Fertilizer scam, ZTE deal, the highest number of extrajudicial murder incidences, excessive spending of gov't in state visits, coup attempts, constant economic decline, highest unemployment rate, and others I have forgotten to mention.
Now, wasnt that a FAIL!

The "bacon"

Go P. Noy, bring home the "bacon" we can really ALL enjoy!

Re: Puppet ties

How would you describe the Arroyo & Bush presidency then?

PUPPET TIES

The Philippines was, is and will always be a puppet of the USA. Juan de la Cruz cannot/will not stand on its own feet because it always depend/rely on Uncle Sam. Both P-NOY and Obama are FAILED FAILED Presidents.
