MANILA, Philippines - Ang Galing Pinoy Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo plans to file a bill seeking to extend the effectivity of the licenses of security guards from 2-3 years.

In a statement, Arroyo said security guards get licenses that are effective for two years. To renew the licenses, security guards must undergo 1-month retraining under their respective police provincial offices, and renew all their clearances with the police, National Bureau of Investigation and the courts.

“For the whole period of their retraining, they would be on a floating status which means they would not be receiving any salary from their agencies while they have to shoulder all the expenses for their retraining program and the renewal of their clearances,” he said.

He added that the issue was raised to him in a meeting with a group of security guards  from Davao City. The group of security guards was led by SG Leonel LIndo, president of the PhilClubSG.

“Kung ‘yung driver’s licenses nga, three years ang effectivity, bakit hindi rin natin magawa ‘yun para sa lisenysa ng mga security guards?” Arroyo said, adding he is set to file a measure to this effect anytime soon.
