MANILA - Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, son of democracy icon Corazon Aquino and national hero Ninoy Aquino, on Wednesday finally declared that he is running for president of the Philippines in 2010.
"Bayang Pilipinas, tatakbo po ako sa pagkapangulo sa darating na halalan. Itutuloy natin ang laban (Philippines, I will run for president in the coming elections. We will continue the fight)," Aquino declared in Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan City.
The declaration was timed with the 40th day after the late President Aquino's death.
"Tinatanggap ko ang hiling ng sambayanan. Tinatanggap ko din ang bilin at tagubilin ng aking mga magulang. Tinatanggap ko ang responsibilidad na ituloy ang laban para sa bayan (I am granting the people's wish. I'm accepting my parents' request. I am accepting the responsibility to continue the fight for the country)," Aquino said.
The senator made the announcement after spending several days in the late President Aquino's favorite convent in Zamboanga City, which was one of the requests of his sisters before coming up with a declaration on his presidential run in 2010.
Aquino, meanwhile, said he is waiting for Senator Mar Roxas to decide on his request to become his running mate in 2010.
"Our party president (Roxas) has led us in difficult times. I've offered the slot to him. I'm awaiting his decision," Aquino said when asked who will be his running mate.
Roxas, the Liberal Party's (LP) supposed standard bearer, decided to withdraw amid clamors for Aquino's run for the presidency.
The LP president, who was present during Aquino's declaration, declined to comment on his possible vice-presidential bid.
However, in a previous interview over radio dzMM, Roxas said that Aquino had asked him to be his running mate.
"Sabi ko sa kanya, kung kalmado ka na... Nakapag-retreat ka na at gusto mo pa rin [akong tumakbong vice-president], mag-usap tayo ulit (I told him that if you have cleared your mind. After your retreat and you still want me to run for vice-president, we will talk again)," Roxas said during the radio interview.
He was relating to a conversation during one of the meetings he had with Aquino before he declared his withdrawal from the 2010 presidential race.
Aquino also announced during the press conference LP's partial senatorial ticket, which includes former Senate President Franklin Drilon, Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon, former congressman Neric Acosta and Akbayan party-list Rep. Risa Hontiveros.

I just want to address and clarify some leading issues against Noynoy Aquino. Of course these are only my personal views and everybody is entitled to their own opinion.
On the issue of Hacienda Luisita:
Para sa ibang ginagamit ang isyu ng Hacienda Luisita, naintindihan ko ang "concerns" ninyo. Ngunit, nagdeklara na si Noynoy na bitawan ang pagaari nya. Para sa kaalaman ninyo, 1/32 lang ang pagaari ni Noynoy. Meron pang natirang tatlumpot-isang mayari na magdesisyon. Ang Hacienda Luisita ay isang korporasyon na may sariling legal na personalidad. Meron itong "Board of Directors" na nagbibigay ng desisyon base sa "rule of majority" ng mga "stockholders" o mga may pagaari. Maliwanag na legally, walang magawa ni Noynoy kung ayaw magbago ng pasya ang majority. Wala siyang magawa dahil yan ang batas ng korporasyon. Kaya minabuti na nyang bitawan ang kanyang "share" SO THAT THE STIGMA OF HACIENDA LUISITA WILL BE PUT TO REST ONCE AND FOR ALL AS FAR AS HE IS CONCERNED.
Ang paraan lang sana para mabago ang sistema ay amyendahan ang Constitution para maisaklaw kaagad ang Hacienda Luisita (and those similarly situated) sa reporma sa lupa. But then, ayaw din naman nating amyendahan ang Consitution or Cha-Cha. Nangangahulugan lang na kontento na tayo sa sistema, di ba? Sana makadagdag ito sa kaalaman ng ating mga kababayan so that we will have an INFORMED DECISION, ika nga.
On the issue of Political Dynasty

On the issue of Traditional Politician popularly known as TRAPO

AGAIN, ONLY THOSE TRADITIONAL POLITICIANS WHO ARE PROVEN CORRUPT, ANG TUNAY NA MGA SALOT SA LIPUNAN. MAY NARINIG BA TAYONG AQUINO NA CORRUPT??? IF NOT, THEN WHATS THE RELEVANCE OF THIS ISSUE? For those who doubt NoyNoy Aquino's ability to govern, let me just quote Sen. Pangilinan's words which are worth pondering thus:
According to Pangilinan, Aquino is not merely “riding on his parents legacy because he had nine years experience in the House and three years in the Senate.
“He has accomplished a lot but was not given enough credit precisely because of his unassuming nature..."
“He is better prepared to assume the presidency than his mother was 23 years ago when she led the struggle against the dictatorship. More than years of experience, IT IS STRENGTH OF CHARACTER AND FORTITUDE that our nation needs today and we believe that Noynoy has the integrity, the grit and the guts to lead the nation.”
Let me just add that Noynoy filed and refiled a bill requiring the president's intelligence funds under COA audit yet, it was repeatedly blocked by the ruling majority. Now, you know how hard it is for an opposition congressman to achieve a very good accomplishment in Congress. Moreover, usually, it is not the politicians' ideas but the brainchild of their legislative staff who diligently make researches and draft bills to become a law. I am speaking this through experience because I was once a legislative staff officer of a former congressman. What I'm trying to say is that, there is really no point of comparison when it comes to accomplishment in Congress.

Binay said that the "Cory Magic" is not enough for Noynoy to win the presidential election. He suggested that Noynoy and Erap should coalesce because Noynoy needs the necessary resources for his campaign and this obviously will come from Erap's camp. I VEHEMENTLY DISAGREE! PAG PINAGHALO MO ANG PUTI AT ITIM TIYAK TSOKALATE ANG KALALABASAN. What I mean is that, Noynoy's credibility will be smirched or tainted and suffer greatly. In short, Nonoy's chances will be doomed. How to gauge your candidates
Someone asked, 'Kung hindi si Noynoy, sino?'
My response is DO SOME RESEARCH. Kilalanin ninyo ang mga kumakandidato ngayon. List down ang mga qualifications nila, projects, accomplishments, achievements. KNOW THEIR HISTORY GOOD AND BAD. At kapag nakuha na ninyo lahat ng information sa kanila, pagkumparahin side by side, itala ang mga GOOD POINTS at BAD POINTS ng bawat isa. From here, malalaman ninyo kung sino ang dapat ninyong suportahan.
It would help a lot if meron kayong susundan na pamantayan.
1. Leadership qualities
- ito yung mga kandidato na kumikilos at nagiging lider. This is Ninoy's primary qualities.
2. Integrity
- kasama na dito ang honesty, loyalty to the country, incorruptibility and the sort.
3. Accomplishments and achievements
- as the name says, ito ang mga nagawa ng kandidato sa mga posisyong hinawakan nila na nagdulot ng kasaganaan o kabutihan sa mamamayan.
4. PRO-ACTIVE
- ito ang mga kandidato na hindi na kailangan pang itulak para kumilos. Kung may mali silang nakikita o may kailangan silang gawin for the benefit of the people, sila na mismo ang kumikilos.
5. Clear mandate
- ano ang gagawin nila kapag na-elect na? Kasama na dito ang plataporma nila.
Meron pang iba, pakidagdagan na lang. This is the sure way to know if qualified ang isang kandidato o hindi. This way, hindi kayo basta basta masisilaw sa mga pangako nila dahil ALAM NINYO KUNG NAGSASABI SILA NG TOTOO O HINDI.

1. Si Noynoy ay hindi corrupt
- This is true. For now. However, si ERAP nung unang kumandidato ay ibinoto dahil hindi daw siya corrupt at isa daw siyang maka-mahirap di ba? Ano ba ang nangyari? Fact is, hindi natin alam kung ano ang puwedeng mangyari kapag si Noynoy ay nakaupo na.
2. Ipagpapatuloy niya ang sinimulan ng mga magulang niya
- 1997 siya nung unang kumandidato. 2009 na ngayon at hanggang ngayon wala pa akong naririnig na ginawa niya o pinagtrabahuhan niya kung saan nakinabang ang taong-bayan. Walang achievement si Noynoy na ma-a-attribute nating kanya lang.
3. Noynoy is an honest and sincere person
- Honesty, maybe. But sincere, I doubt it. If he's truly sincere sa pinasok niya sa politika, then matagal na sana siyang nakakatulong sa taong-bayan. Instead, sinayang niya ang potential niyang makatulong sa taong-bayan for 12 long years.
4. Hindi niya dudungisan ang pangalan ng mga magulang niya
- Paano tayo nakakasiguro dito? Walang nakakasiguro. Hindi siya si Ninoy at lalong hindi siya si Cory. Noynoy is a different person and frankly he lacked his father's courage and sense of action and his mother's loyalty and devotion to the country. For crying out loud! Kris Aquino is much more courageous than Noynoy! Siguro dapat si Kris na lang ang nasa politics at si Noynoy ang sa entertainment.
5. Malinis ang hangarin
- Madaling sabihin yan. Lahat ng kandidato yan ang sinasabi. Si ERAP sabi nila nuon malinis din ang hangarin di ba? Ano ba ang nangyari?

1. Not a man of action
- Kung si Ninoy ay buhay ngayon, kikilos siya agad at babatikusin ang mga kulang at mali sa administrasyon natin. Siya pa ang lider. Si Noynoy, nakikita niya ang mga kulang at mali pero wala siyang ginagawa. Gusto niya kasi laging nasa safe side.
2. Not a worker
- 12 years and NOT ONE SHRED OF ACCOMPLISHMENT. Ano ang ginawa niya sa haba ng panahong ito? Wala.
3. Not really a smart person
- Sabi ni Noynoy, 'hahabulin ko ang yaman ng mga Marcos'. For crying out loud! Naging Presidente si Cory, hindi nahabol yan. Dumaan ang tatlong Presidente hindi nahabol yan. Does Noynoy even have a battle plan for this? I don't think so. Wala lang kasi siyang masabing gagawin niya kaya ito ang sinasabi niya. Halatang halata naman na binubuhay niya ang AQUINO/MARCOS rivalry for his benefit. Ito ang resulta ng pag-consult niya sa mga madre. Hanggang ngayon nabubuhay siya sa panahon ng martial law. He really needs to wake up and see what is happening in the REAL WORLD.
4. No identity of his own
- Nakadikit lagi si Noynoy sa pangalan ni Cory at Ninoy. Why? Because he won't be able to sustain his campaign without mentioning Cory and Ninoy. He's 40ish na di ba? He's more than old enough to create his own identity. He should stop living in the shadows of his parents. Ninoy was able to create an identity of his own, why can't Noynoy?
5. A passive person
- This is related to numbers 1 and 2. Not a man of action, not even a worker kaya nakaupo lang at hindi kumikilos kahit maraming nakikitang mali. Ano ang ginagawa niya? Nagpapatubo ng buhok sa tuktok?
So let's sum it up for NOYNOY.
Noynoy is honest and not corrupt and this is the only advantage I can see. Unfortunately he's shown through the years that he is also not sincere enough, nor is he a person who will readily fight for the people. His problem is that he needs to be pushed first before he acts.
He is not PRO-ACTIVE. He is much more comfortable by letting other people fight for what he should be fighting for, and lacks leadership which is the most important skill for a person vying for the Presidency. He is content to be in the background and always on the safe side which is why he doesn't have any accomplishments nor achievements that are noteworthy.
He is not a smart person in the sense that he is still living in the past and seems content to revive the Aquino/Marcos rivalry just to say something. He is imaginative but his plans are not attainable.
No originality. He says the things that people have heard through the years and with that, no actual plan.
He lacks vision. He fails to see the country's potential. We are rich in natural resources and yet he hasn't mentioned any plan to study, develop and turn it into a revenue making machine in which only the country would profit.
He is also a TRAPO. He uses his family name because he doesn't have any achievements. He is also a SLACKER, because he's content to sit out two of his terms without actually doing anything.
So there you have it. This, is the candidate you're all rooting for? Hindi sapat na pamantayan ang honesty at hindi corrupt dahil ito ay nababago kapag ang tao ay nakaupo na. At kapag nangyari nga iyun, what then? Huwag ninyong sabihin na hindi mangyayari kay Noynoy yan dahil yan din ang sinabi ng marami sa inyo nung kumakandidato pa lang si ERAP. The fact is that MARAMI TAYONG HINDI ALAM SA TUNAY NA PERSONALITY NI NOYNOY. Kaya hindi tayo dapat magpadala sa FEEL lang o TIWALA. WE NEED TO BE REALISTIC sa pagpili ng kandidato. Dahil KAPAG NAGKAMALI TAYO, TAYO DIN ANG MAGHIHIRAP. Sorry to say this pero mga BOBO at TANGA lang sa mundong ito ang nagpapadala sa basta TIWALA. Ang tunay na TIWALA pinagtatrabahuhan at may kakambal na RESULTA kaya tayo nagtitiwala sa isang tao. Bakit natin ibibigay ang TIWALA natin sa isang tao na wala namang ipinapakitang resulta ng pinagtrabahuhan niya?

will definitely not VOTE for Noynoy. This nation more that anything else needs someone who is competent and possesses the necessary skills to pave the way for RP's development. Noynoy may not be tinted with any corruption BUT is he qualified at all to be President? Probably, but he has a lot of things to prove 1st and he may run in 2016. He should not bank on the popularity of his parents. Let him first prove himself worthy to become president. I guess if his surname is not Aquino some people would not even bother ask for his candidacy. Let us be practical guys. We need leaders who can actually do something good for our country. Let us not vote out of sympathy or whatever emotional feelings we feel towards the demise of President Cory Aquino. As a senator he never proved to be useful how much more if he becomes president.
