SK polls likely to be postponed - Comelec
MANILA - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) steering committee started their weekly briefing this morning in preparation for the barangay elections on October 28.
Comelec Chair Sixto Brillantes said the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections would most likely be postponed.
He said a consensus was reached not to conduct SK elections because of concerns including budget where millions of the budget just go to sports activities, dancing parties and other events.
Some of these activities result to teenage pregnancy in some cases, according to Comelec officials.
Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the Senate committee on local government will recommend the postponement of the SK polls, citing reforms that need to be put in place before the next SK elections are held.
While waiting for Congress' final decision, Brillantes said that they would continue to prepare for the October polls.
