Storm 'Nando' spotted near Aurora

Weather bureau PAGASA on Saturday hoisted public storm signal over northern Luzon provinces after an active low pressure area earlier sighted near Southern Luzon developed into a storm.

PAGASA said Tropical Depression "Nando" was 270 kilometers east of Casiguran town in Aurora province. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour.

Public storm signal No. 1 was hoisted over the northern Luzon provinces of Aurora, Cagayan and Isabela.

PAGASA said the storm was moving west northwest at 11 kilometers per hour.

It was expected to move closer to Auora and Palanan on Sunday morning and closer to Vigan City by Monday.

The storm the Philippines’ area of responsibility while several provinces in Luzon were still recovering from storm “Maring.”

The previous storm’s heavy rains flooded dozens of villages in Pampanga, Bulacan, Zambales and Metro Manila.

It left 11 people dead and six others missing.
