Arroyo cancels New York trip
MANILA – President Arroyo has cancelled her planned trip to New York next week where was supposed to speak before the United Nations General Assembly.
Press Secretary Cerge Remonde did not explain why the trip was called off.
The President’s visit to Saudi Arabia and London will push through, he added.
Mrs. Arroyo is scheduled to leave Manila on September 17 for London to attend The Emerging Markets Summit in London.
She was invited to deliver a keynote address by London-based newsmagazine “The Economist,” according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Mrs. Arroyo will then fly to Saudi Arabia on September 19 for a three-day state visit where she will hold talks with King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.
The chief executive will also meet with the Saudi Minister of Agriculture and members of the Saudi business community.
The DFA also said that Mrs. Arroyo is scheduled to grace the inauguration of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.
Mrs. Arroyo’s recent trip to the United States drew flak after she and her entourage reportedly spent thousands of dollars in upscale restaurants in Washington D.C. and New York. -- With a report from ANC
