Binay wants to run for president in 2016
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - Vice President Jejomar Binay made no qualms about his ambition to be president by 2016.
Responding to questions from the media at the Coconut Palace today, Binay said it would be "hypocritical" of him to deny his plans to run for Malacañang.
"Nangangarap akong maging presidente. Hindi ko naman itinatanggi yan," said the vice president.
Binay however was quick to qualify that while 2016 is already in his sights, he would rather not talk about his forthcoming candidacy at this time.
"Isantabi muna natin yun, magtrabaho muna tayo. Huwag tayong magpadala sa pulitika," said Binay. "We'll cross the bridge when we reach that point."
Meanwhile, the Vice President also extended his congratulations to Shamcey Supsup for winning third runner-up at the recent Ms. Universe pageant.
"We'll have to congratulate her. Ang dami-daming contestant, ang dami-daming magaganda, at least 4th placer siya," Binay said.
The Vice President hosted a meeting with several government officials to iron out plans for the "Au Pair" agreement with Sweden.
Binay said they are already making a proposal of guidelines for the agreement, which will facilitate opportunities for overseas Filipino workers who plan to work in Sweden.
