Belmonte: RH Bill working group may be scrapped
MANILA, Philippines - A deadlock in the reproductive health bill (RH) will likely continue if sectors remain lukewarm to a suggestion of forming a panel to craft an acceptable version of the controversial measure.
House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. said the technical working group that was earlier suggested may have to be scrapped.
He said it would be pointless if only lawmakers will be in the group sans representatives from other sectors such as the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
The CBCP earlier said it will not join the working group.
CBCP President and Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma said they will just let lawmakers resolve the issues.
Despite this, Belmonte hopes the bill will still be passed even if it has to go through more debates.
He said lawmakers will still come to a vote amid the Church’s lobbying. - from a report by Jon Ibañez, dzMM
