Suspended Justice Sabio attends DOJ probe on bribery attempt at CA
Suspended Court of Appeals (CA) Justice Jose Sabio Jr. showed up before the Department of Justice Tuesday to attend its first hearing on alleged bribery at the appellate court.
It was Sabio who alleged that businessman Francis de Borja, who claimed to be an emissary for Manila Electric Co. (MERALCO), had tried to offer him P10 million to sway him to inhibit from the MERALCO management case. De Borja has repeatedly denied Sabio’s allegation, saying that it was the appellate court magistrate who had asked money from him. Sabio was suspended from the SC after the high court found improprieties in the behavior of the CA justices involved in the MERALCO row. The DOJ has formed a three-man panel to investigate the alleged bribery at the appellate court following the recommendations by the Supreme Court (SC) to look into the issue for appropriate actions.
