Legarda is with UNA - Tiangco
MANILA, Philippines - United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) secretary general and Navotas Rep. Tobias Tiangco reiterated Senator Loren Legarda will run under the coalition.
Tiangco said, however, that she will become a “common” candidate if the administration Liberal Party decides to include her in its ticket as well.
Legarda, the leading senatorial candidate in pre-election surveys, said she is grateful for UNA’s confidence in her.
“I believe that will be officially announced at the proper time…As I have stated, I am [Nationalist People’s Coalition] and I will continue to run under NPC,” she said.
UNA is the coalition between Vice President Jejomar Binay’s PDP-Laban and former President Joseph Estrada’s Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino. The NPC, on the other hand, is forming a coalition with the Liberal Party of President Aquino.
Legarda continues to lead in surveys in the run up to the 2013 polls. In the latest Pulse Asia survey, Legarda got the support of 67.3% of the respondents.
She credits her high rating to her hard work at the Senate. She noted she has not even been going around the country. “I am never complacent. I will never sit in my laurels...”
She said she will stay away from politics and continue to support the governance of both Aquino and Binay.
Meanwhile, Tiangco also said UNA is still waiting for the decision of Senator Francis Escudero, who placed second in the Pulse survey.
He said UNA recently changed its policy in order to accommodate common candidates, such as Legarda and Escudero.
The same could be said in the case of Movie and Television Review and Classification Board chairperson Grace Poe Llamanzares, who earlier said she will be running with the LP.
