Sotto calls for probe into Gadapan sacking
MANILA, Philippines - Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III has called for a Senate investigation into the dismissal of Philippine Drug Enforcement Administration Deputy Director General Carlos Gadapan.
In a privilege speech, Sotto, an anti-illegal drugs advocate and author of anti-illegal drugs legislation, cited media reports of Gadapan's charges against his colleagues at the PDEA.
Gadapan specifically targeted PDEA chief Jose Gutierez, whose wife allegedly has gambling problems.
Sotto recognizes the Palace prerogative to replace Gadapan. On Monday, Malacanang sacked Gadapan for “loss of trust and confidence.”
He stressed, however, that PDEA must be examined to make sure it functions well and that it is respectable.
Sotto's speech was referred to the committee on illegal drugs.
