Palace: No compromise deal in pork cases
MANILA - Malacañang said it will not enter into any compromise deal with lawmakers or private individuals in connection with the cases now filed on the pork barrel scam.
"I can guarantee you that there's no compromise because once charges are filed, it's no longer with us. It's already with the Ombudsman and the Ombudsman will have full discretion as to what charges will be filed against any particular individual-both as a legislator and both as official of all those NGOs," presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.
Lacierda said he is not aware of a reported attempt by a politician to strike a deal with the Palace to drop the case in exchange for returning ill-gotten wealth.
The Presidential spokesman earlier said more cases in connection with the pork barrel scam will be filed as the Inter-Agency Anti- Graft Coordinating Council (IAAGCC) speeds up its investigation.
"Remember, one of the ways we wanted to expedite the whole process was the President setting up IAAGCC. 'Yung IAAGCC was meant to expedite the whole procedure, so that the fact-finding will happen in IAAGCC; at which point, kapag buo 'yung fact-finding… ibabato sa Ombudsman and they will file the preliminary investigation," Lacierda said.
"We'd like everything to be expedited. That's one way we did it by tasking IAAGCC to expedite and avoid duplication."
Lacierda said that the council is using the Commission on Audit special audit report as basis in its probe, and cases will be filed as well against others who are involved in the misuse of the Priority Development Assistance Fund.
"So we will expect the other cases… tulad po 'nung mga hindi involved kay Napoles, 'yon po ay pag-aaralan po ng IAAGCC and you will see wala na pong duplication. Magkakaroon po ng expediting ng process po 'nung ating fact-finding and eventual filing, eventual preliminary investigation with the Ombudsman," Lacierda said.
"'Yan ang mandate ng IAAGCC ngayon. Pag-aaralan… 'yung 2007 to 2009 special audit report and also the other related. Iyong mga Napoles kasi napag-aralan na po ng NBI 'yan, so advanced na po 'yan. Iyong mga 2007, 2009 Special Audit Report, this involves a number of NGOs, also a number of other personalities that will be studied by the IAAGCC."
